Module: Identifying Signs of Child Abuse and Neglect

In order to protect children from abuse, teachers must be able to recognize when it might be happening. In this module, you will learn common symptoms of abuse and neglect—and what to do if symptoms are observed.

In this module, you will:

  • Explore the prevalence of child abuse and neglect and its impact on students in the classroom.
  • Define the four main forms of child abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect.
  • Identify risk factors for child abuse and neglect, and explore common myths and misconceptions.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect at different developmental stages.
