Rebuilding Our Communities

Returning to school in fall 2021 is different from previous school years as students and adults navigate new relationships and experiences and process an unprecedented year. Many of the risks and traumas experienced over the last year continue to affect the lives of students, families, and educators. The desire to move forward and rebuild our communities comes with unique challenges. We have developed two evidence-based toolkits with strategies for you, your students, and your colleagues to rebuild communities. Many of the resources come from Harmony SEL and Inspire Teaching & Learning, so they are recommendations you may already be familiar with. These strategies will help educators and out-of-school time instructors address specific questions and concerns as we reconnect and rebuild in the coming year.

Find Resources for Your Back-to-School Concerns and Questions

Many communities are coming back to their classrooms after a year disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic while navigating uncertainty and far-reaching social inequities as well as personal and community trauma. Review these toolkits and access SEL-informed lessons, activities, tools, and strategies selected to address key questions and support student development and educator connection and healing.

One toolkit focuses on supporting student SEL, well-being, and culturally responsive instruction, and one toolkit focuses on supporting adult SEL, self-care, and in-depth professional learning. Use these resources together as you rebuild a sense of community in your school or organization.
